Oklahomans expect their government to operate transparently, efficiently, and with a clear focus on service. When these principles guide public decision-making, communities benefit from clearer communication, fewer delays, and stronger trust in the institutions that support daily life and economic growth.
That is why I strongly supported the Legislature’s creation of the Legislative Office of Financial Transparency (LOFT) during my service. LOFT provides lawmakers—and the public—with meaningful insight into how state agencies actually spend taxpayer dollars. By evaluating agency performance and identifying trends, LOFT helps inform future budget decisions and strengthens accountability across state government.
Since its creation in 2019, LOFT has released more than 40 reports covering topics such as the state’s use of Coronavirus relief funds, the Developmental Disabilities Services waiting list, and federal education funding, among many others. This work has proven that transparency is not theoretical—it produces real, measurable benefits for Oklahoma.
Transparency Builds Public Trust
Clear information and open communication are foundational to effective government. Whether drafting legislation, allocating resources, or launching new programs, transparency helps citizens and businesses understand not only what decisions are being made, but why.
When public data, meeting agendas, and budget information are readily accessible, confusion is reduced, misinformation is minimized, and accountability is strengthened at every level of government.
Efficiency Reduces Barriers for Citizens and Businesses
Efficient government processes help Oklahomans get what they need without unnecessary delays or red tape. This includes:
- Streamlined licensing and permitting
- Coordinated communication between agencies
- Faster response times
- Clear timelines and expectations
- Modern digital services that reduce in-person requirements
For employers and entrepreneurs, efficiency means saving time, lowering costs, and removing obstacles that slow innovation and growth.
Service Ensures Government Works for the People
A service-centered approach places citizens and businesses at the heart of policymaking. Effective public service means:
- Listening to community concerns
- Responding promptly to issues
- Providing clear guidance when rules or processes change
- Offering accessible paths for questions, appeals, or feedback
- Designing programs that reflect real-world needs
At its core, public service is about helping families and businesses succeed—not complicating their path forward.
Putting These Principles into Action
When transparency, efficiency, and service work together, Oklahoma benefits from a government that is easier to navigate and more responsive to its residents. For businesses, this creates:
- A more predictable regulatory environment
- Faster processing times
- Clearer communication during compliance or licensing
- A smoother path to growth and expansion
Final Thoughts
Government done right is simple: provide clear information, remove unnecessary barriers, and deliver service with integrity. By strengthening transparency, improving efficiency, and remaining focused on the needs of families and businesses, Oklahoma can continue building a strong foundation for long-term success.
